Trolls, Trails, and Treats: An Unforgettable Dog-Friendly Ohio Adventure

Trolls, Trails, and Treats: An Unforgettable Dog-Friendly Ohio Adventure

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly Ohio adventure that blends whimsy, walkability, and wag-worthy food, this road trip hits the sweet spot—literally. From larger-than-life trolls to see-through skywalks and a classic drive-in for pups and people alike, here’s how Jocco and I uncovered Ohio’s most tail-thumping treasures in a single unforgettable day.

🧌 Giant Trolls at Aullwood Audubon: Where Nature Meets Art

Meeting one of Thomas Dambo’s towering trolls at Aullwood Audubon—with Jocco proudly stealing the spotlight!

We started our journey at Aullwood Audubon Nature Center in Dayton, home to a whimsical outdoor exhibit by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. His enormous wooden troll sculptures—crafted from reclaimed materials—are tucked throughout the trails, inviting visitors on a magical scavenger hunt.

📍 Location: Dayton, Ohio
🐾 Dog-Friendly? Leashed dogs are welcome on most outer trails (confirm signage or staff guidance on sanctuary zones).
📸 Photo Tip: Aim for mid-morning light for stunning troll photos and fewer crowds.

The peaceful forest, interactive art, and curious sniffing from Jocco made this stop feel like stepping into a Nordic fairytale.

🌉 Walk on Air at Cleveland’s Glass Skywalk

Jocco being brave on the see-through walkway—taking in the views (and probably wondering where the ground went).

🍦 Frozen Fun at Doodle Drive-In

Road trip fuel check! Reviewing the menu at Doodle Drive-In while Jocco prepares to order one of everything.

To end our day on a sweet note, we rolled into Doodle Drive-In in Cuyahoga Falls—a nostalgic eatery that knows how to treat its furry visitors. With a dedicated “paw-tio,” a playful dog menu, and friendly staff, this retro stop is a must.

📍 Location: 350 E Steels Corners Rd, Cuyahoga Falls, OH
🐾 Dog-Friendly? Absolutely! Dogs are welcome on the patio and can enjoy “Puppy Bites,” Pup-O-Fluff, and more.
📸 Photo Tip: Don’t miss a shot with the vintage sign, your pup’s dessert, and one of the colorful picnic benches.

Jocco devoured his Pup-O-Fluff like it was made of magic (maybe it was), while I cooled off with their cookie-dough. It’s the kind of place that feels like the perfect finale to a day full of discovery.

Final Thoughts: Why Ohio Is a Dog Lover’s Hidden Gem

Ohio may not top the list for wild travel destinations, but that’s exactly why it shines. It’s full of surprises, especially for those of us who travel with paws in the passenger seat. With a little planning, a love of adventure, and a few well-timed treats, even a day trip turns into something magical.

So grab the leash, pack your camera, and wander with me—because the road is calling, and this one’s paved with paws and possibilities.
