Looking for an unforgettable animal encounter without flying across the world? Let me introduce you to African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio—an interactive adventure that brings the safari right to your car window.
This was my first time visiting the park, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Whether you’re road tripping solo, with friends, or making family memories, this place is packed with laughter, gasps, and animal selfies you didn’t know you needed.

🚗 Drive-Through Safari: A Wild Ride From Start to Finish
When you purchase your ticket, you’ll receive one cup of animal feed for the drive-through safari. I went ahead and added the 3-bucket upgrade —and I’m so glad I did!
From curious elk to snack-savvy deer, Scottish highland cattle, camels, and bison, the animals come right up to your vehicle window—and sometimes inside it—hoping for a leafy treat.
Tips to Make the Most of It:
- Pace your feeding. You’ll want to save at least one cup for the camels and bison at the end.
- Watch those giraffes. If you buy giraffe feed (separately), be ready—they’re not shy about helping themselves to the whole cup in one bite!
- Bison are strong and assertive—one broke my nail grabbing the cup a little too eagerly.
- Animals hop from car to car. They know who’s got food, and they won’t be bashful about it.
- Watch out for the “littles”—small animals that dash up quickly and love to surprise you.
Bonus: You can loop through the drive-through as many times as you’d like! Just be sure to only use the food provided by the park.
🐾 Walk-Through Safari & Animal Encounters
After the drive, head into the walk-through zoo for even more up-close moments. This area is especially great for kids and families, with interactive exhibits and a more relaxed pace.
You’ll see tortoises, warthogs, kangaroos, birds, and more—plus feeding opportunities at select enclosures.

🆕 Don’t Miss:
- Capybara Encounter – a new addition where you can meet and feed these adorable creatures!
- Tortoise feeding – food is sold right at their area.
- Fish feeding station – bring quarters (50¢ per portion) for a fun side activity.
🧒 This part of the park is especially geared toward families and young children. Between the educational exhibits and hands-on animal fun, it’s a fantastic place to spark curiosity and laughter.
🍴 Post-Safari Pick: Bistro 163
